House Dok Productions was invited to Momocon to host a panel on RPG design and run games of Fractured Kingdom and Metahumans Rising. The turn out was amazing! The design panel was hosted by Craig Campbell and myself. There was a great collaborative atmosphere and it was awesome seeing the games emerge from the panel and workshop including a psychological horror and a different take on psychology , well insanity really, where players worked together to escape a mental institution. Everyone from the Momocon staff helped to encourage the game designers even hunting down a copy of Apples to Apples to help inmates break out.
There was one Fractured Kingdom and one Metahumans Rising demo scheduled. However, due to interest levels we ended up running a total of five games. There was a number of first time role players who were able to quickly pick up either game.
Coming out of the convention there was a lot of positive feedback for both Fractured Kingdom and Metahumans Rising. One of the biggest hits was the Willpower Mechanic for heroes in Metahumans Rising. Players used it to come up with some extremely creative uses of their powers including riding the shadow of an informant and preventing a riot at a college football game.
One of the best demos included a mother and three children exploring role playing together. Our youngest player took on the role of Crossfire, she was able to quickly pick up the game mechanics and played a key role though the game.
Overall, this has been one of our best con experiences. Spread the word and help grow both Momocon and their RPG tracks.
