With the trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine sweeping the internet, we wanted to see what these character’s powers might look like in Metahumans Rising, and how different they really are. So, without further ado let’s get into our core power sets. Olay, one further ado, we will be working with the heroes of Earth-616, that’s Marvel comics not the MCU (Earth-199999). We will not be using Earth-TRN414, the earth of X-Men First Class and Deadpool films as it’s unclear which earth the Wolverine from the upcoming movie will be from.
Wolverine
Starting with age before beauty, Wolverine is known for his extending claws and regeneration, not to mention his off again, on again, relationship with an adamantium skeleton. While technically not part of his mutant anatomy, we will be including the skeleton as part of the core power. Wolverine also possesses a number of other abilities related to his mutant nature and skeletal enhancement including, resistance to disease and poison, enhanced senses, and enhanced physical prowess. Thanks to his regeneration and a boost from Professor X, Wolvie also possesses a degree of psychic resistance.

This rendition of Wolverine’s abilities balance offense, defense, and regeneration. Being both extremely deadly, and able to shrug off wounds. It’s important to note that the Healing Surge only kicks in naturally for Injuries. However, Willpower can be used to bypass this along with Regenerate Limbs in the case of losing an arm or leg. While Logan possesses Armor, narratively this is more of an instant regeneration where Wolverine simply ignores some degree of Damage. Wolverine’s skeleton is also reflected in the Extra Stamina Boon.
As a skilled fighter Wolverine is agile, and has enhanced strength, but they are not as strong as a powerhouse or more nimble characters. Where things ramp up are Wolverine’s senses. They are known for their ability to track and often sense of smell plays a key factor, so we’ve invested a bit more there.
Finally, let’s note that Logan’s legendary physique stems from his natural regeneration, this is reflected in the Drawback, Not Skill Power. Acknowledging this Talent also assists Wolverine in overcoming other physical challenges, but when suppressed, life for Logan becomes more difficult.
Deadpool
To the likely surprise of no one, the origins of Deadpool’s full abilities are a bit murky. Opting to undergo a process that infused Wade Wilson with Wolverine’s blood, the process successfully imbued Deadpool with his own regeneration power. However, it has been demonstrated that Deadpool’s regenerative abilities are heightened, even beyond Wolverine’s impressive capabilities. Like Wolverine, this affords him a telepathic immunity and resistance to disease. Interestingly, Deadpool also demonstrates enhanced physical abilities with an agility above Wolverine’s. This may be due to the lack of a metal skeleton slowing Deadpool down.

Not Skill Power (Fitness)
Deadpool easily shrugs off wounds and has recovered from beheadings. (Spend some willpower if you want to Control your body while decapitated.) To emphasize the stronger regeneration, there is also no restriction on Surges. Overall, it’s a more specialized power. Deadpool makes up for a lack of natural offense with either swords or firearms. Decide which one you think is Gear that best fits the playstyle, and then use Willpower to leverage the other “missing” Gear. Adding in Tools: Hidden Weapon can help here.
What’s The Difference?
The difference between the two characters could be seen as the difference between similar broad and narrow powers. A sword focused Deadpool will feel similar to Wolverine, but faces complications around being disarmed. Wolverine on the other hand can Wolverine lacks the versatility of swapping between ranged and close quarters. When you start measuring brass tacks, yes Deadpool’s regeneration is stronger. However, Wolverine’s skeleton helps to offself that with added toughness, and ultimately both are going to be fun builds that can live together at the game table.
