- A close style that focuses on redirection and counter attacks.
Kulo, or Slant Body, Wing Chun was developed by retired doctor Leung Jan after returning home to his village of Gu Lao. Kulo distills traditional Wing Chun forms into twelve sets of three movements Leung found most effective in combat. Additionally, the style focuses on the forty key points of the body to control motion and power. All this helps to create a fast defense focused style that can be more accessible than other styles, but with a deep level of mastery as with other traditional Kung-Fu.
Originally taught as a means to contend with local bandits and raiders who tormented the citizens of Gu Lao, Kulo keeps the attacker close and engaged until a finishing blow can be applied. These strikes may be perceived as unpredictable, but are based on the positioning of the bodies and how the body will be positioned following the attack. For this reason, Kulo focuses on quick hand techniques
Associated Weapons: Butterfly Knives, Long Pole (Staff), Throwing Darts
The core stance of Kulo, and a number of other Wing Chun styles is a closed horse stance, arms chambered, legs slightly squatting with feet either forward or facing inward at a slight angle. From here the martial artist can shift in, or back as needed to close ranks safely engaging the foe’s arms. The martial artist learns to redirect the opponent’s attacks, or energy, and position themselves so that they cannot be struck. Once repositioned the martial artist is able to make clean strikes to the head, sides, or vitals.
Author’s Note: All builds presented in this series should not be taken as the only way to interpret a given style. Players and GMs are encouraged to treat these as a framework to build their own character’s style.

While many Wing Chun schools have intricate, stylized motions, Kulo focuses heavily on function. Nevertheless, the style can be extremely beautiful, and elegant to watch. Do not let this fool you though, as the martial artist has practiced iteration, upon iteration of ways to strike, overcome, and defeat their foes.

Use In Conflict
Let your foes come to you relying on Counter Vital Strike to take down most foes. With Retribution, you can inflict extra damage on foes by completely redirecting their force before striking. For well defended opponents A quick Sizing Up, or Set Up can give you the opening you need while Defending to avoid harm, and land additional blows. Because attacks turn a foe’s energy against them, the pain lingers, causing additional harm over time.
