- A Southern Style Kung-Fu that focuses on endurance training and powerful strikes.
A descendant of Shaolin Kung-Fu, Hung Ga s a powerful style drawing from tiger, crane, dragon, snake, and leopard leopard styles. It is perhaps most famous for practitioners mastery of the horse stance and body hardening exercises.
In traditional schools students may spend years perfecting the thousand pound foundation, horse stance, before moving on to any forms of striking techniques. This dedication prepares the mind and body for the trials that are to follow. Hung Ga uses the eight sided trigram to defend against multiple foes from multiple directions at once. Advanced techniques include the Iron Wire First, a form of breath and body control.
Associated Weapons: Broadsword, Short Sword/Butterfly Knives (paired), Spear, Staff/Pole, Trident/Tiger Fork, War Fan
When in combat, Hung Ga practitioners will often sink into a squat, powerful, horse stance arms shoulder length apart ready to strike. From here, the martial artist can adjust as the need arises. Shifting positioning, or direction to adjust to incoming attacks.
Author’s Note: All builds presented in this series should not be taken as the only way to interpret a given style. Players and GMs are encouraged to treat these as a framework to build their own character’s style.

Super Style Hung Ga
For fans of Avatar: The Last Airbender, or the Legend of Korra, this may be where you expect me to discuss Earth Bending. Hung Ga was the inspiration for the Earth Bending techniques shown in the series, and the animatories even consulted with masters of the style to make sure they got things right. However, for this section, I’d like to discuss the style’s connection to the five elements and how that may come into play.
Hung Ga is also referred to as Five Element Kung-Fu. The following fictional abilities are inspired by Hung Ga.
- Dragon’s Claw (Alternate Source: Fire)
- Flowing Whip (Devastating)
- Iron Fist (Total Devastation)
- Movement of Four Winds (Armor + Defends Against: Might & Quickness)
- Rooted Stance (Passive Defense + Unmoving)

By sinking into the rooted horse stance, the Hung Ga martial artist taps into the forces of creation. Their body becomes as hard as iron, but able to shift as quickly as the wind. Their strikes are crippling, and when necessary they may strike with burning fists that are capable of tearing through armors.

Use In Conflict
With an Action to prepare, you are armored against any physical assault. Don’t be afraid to wade into groups. Provoking foes with martial prowess and shear defiance against the odds you are primed to defend against any number of foes. When dealing with Mobs a well placed Triple Heavy Blow can turn the tide of battle quickly. Note, both the Heavy Blow and Triple Heavy blow Specialties will work to offset the penalties and boost Damage. Swapping between regular physical damage and fire damage can help against some foes, and can be used in other situations like opening a locked door by melting the locks.
