Flux AKA Robert West AKA Danny Dobson AKA Bobby
Power Level: Classic
Background
No one expects an high school math teacher and a failing student from one of the worst schools in America to develop a theory that would allow matter to be instantly moved between two places, much less the language required. The pair worked together as a thought experiment at first Dr. Robert West hoping to help bring up Danny Dobson’s grades by engaging him in, well, anything. This slow research turned to a fever pitch as the two recognized the potential. The results however were rather unexpected.
As the two worked, they believed their Apportation Theory would require significant resources to develop the equipment required. What the pair did not know is that all that was required was the language and formula as they had tapped into the underlying language of the universe. Known to some as arcanum and to others as sorcery for the two it was science.
The pair did not realize they had begun working in tandem, completing each other’s sentences, even thoughts. The Arcanum Apportation was binding them as they worked together. It was as if the lost language wanted to be rediscovered.
The small math room ceased to exist in normal space, being both in the physical realm and in the potential realm. to the outside world, Robert West and Danny Dobson went missing on the same day. After a three days, a statewide manhunt began with parents and authorities assuming Danny had been kidnapped. In reality, the pair had never left the classroom. After a year people began to lose hope. After three years even Danny’s parents began to move on.
Twenty six years passed while in the Apportation Flux. The school was demolished and a office park built in it’s place. So, it was a surprise to everyone when West and Dobson completed their research initiating an Apportation back into the material world. The classroom merged with the an office meeting room and the student and teacher became one, the Arcanum merging them.
Their bodies and memories fuzing into a new entity capable of tapping into the Arcanum Flux. To them, the merger had been seamless, having begun decades ago. Returned to the physical world the new entity was forced to reconcile their last remaining memories.
In a state of shock this new entity teleported away, leaving a stunned boardroom to wonder what exactly just happened and why a number of desks from the early eighties had just appeared with a blackboard.
The newly merged entity had a strange, almost intuitive understanding that the collapsing quantum field recombined like matter to create what they now were. Taking the name Bobby as an honorific to the men he had been before he tried to come to grips with his new life. Despite wanting to scare his discovery with the world it was clear that the potential for destruction was too great. Instead Bobby turned inward to try and understand the full ramifications of the Apportation Arcanum.
It did not take much time for Bobby to realize he could do a lot more than just teleport. Which, wasn’t really teleporting but rather being in both places at the same time and then not being in two places. With practice Bobby was able to be in many places at once but the more spread out he became the harder it was to concentrate meaning he would have to keep himself relatively close unless making a single jump.
Bobby could sense significant events in flux. While he lacked understanding of their temporal weight he did have a strange feeling that he could tip the scales towards the better by taking the right actions. From that point it was no great leap to crime fighting. Although, part of him thought about going the other way.
Taking the name Flux Bobby swore that he would aid mankind in anyway he could until they were ready to accept the Arcanum.
Appearance
When not using the Arcanum Bobby’s appearance is a perfect blending of Robert and Danny’s features. Somewhere in his mid-twenties with one blue and one brown eye with dirty blonde hair. When tapping into the Arcanum Apportation, Flux’s body turns to nothingness, as if there is a hole in reality where Flux should be.
Issue 0
As Bobby explored his powers for the first time he found himself drawn to a strange chateau in France. He learned soon enough that he had in fact been summoned there by a coven of Mages attempting to tap into the Apportation Arcanum. The mages attempted to capture Flux to use him as a tool to further their arcane rituals.
Barely able to escape, he found that he was particularly susceptible to their magic. To escape Flux had to outwit the mages without using his powers as they were able to track him in such close range.
