It’s been almost a month since the new year began, not that anyone would realize the new year has begun. For whatever reason, New Year’s Eve keeps resetting. For most people, there is no memory of the previous day’s events, everything simply resets and carries forward. What makes you so special though?
Somehow the heroes have been pulled out of the time loop. This may be cosmic coincidence, random chance, or something more significant. Some possible reasons include:
- The heroes have been trapped in an accident that impacted their temporal inertia
- A time traveler has run the calculations and the heroes are the best shot at fixing things
- Time is cycling through possibilities and their selection was simply inevitable
- A cosmic entity selected them for a task, such as Death (trust me on this one)
- There are multiple dimensions folding in on each other, and the heroes are out of sync.
- A cosmic entity is playing a game with the heroes
To correct the time loop the heroes are going to have to fix things. Some possibilities as to what is broken include:
- There is a device that was activated or broken that needs to be disabled or fixed
- The heroes must prevent a cosmic horror before it becomes unstoppable, it is also outside the time loop
- There is a precise order that the universe needs to be restored to, and it’s centered on the heroes, they need to figure out what’s out of place
- The spirit of the year refuses to die, preventing time from moving forward. Once the spirit passses on they will be reborn. The heroes have to cajole the spirit to be reborn
- The heroes need to reconcile themselves across multiple dimensions, otherwise reality cannot move forward
- Figure out the game, and stop whoever is toying with the heroes
